  The Shimmering Solstice walkthrough experience is like no other display you've seen. Located at Old Westbury Gardens in Nassau, you can tour the beautifully landscaped grounds, including the Walled Garden, Rose Garden, and South Lawn, enhanced by dazzling light displays created by some of the most talented visual designers in the world. There are interactive exhibits, an illuminated water display, and more. Running through January 1st, the sights are truly magical. Reservations are required, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance.   The lanterns at the Suffolk Winter Lantern Festival are simply astounding. Hand-crafted by local artisans, they're made to look like a host of animals and objects—many of them life-size. Make your way through a glowing garden of lantern flowers, trees, and mushrooms, then explore a lantern sea bed of brightly colored fish and a menagerie of beautiful, glowing animals, from ducks to goats to giraffes and even dinosaurs!   How would you like to spend the holidays in space? The Winter Lantern Festival's Drive-Thru Adventure is the next best thing. This Nassau County experience lets you drive your vehicle through a series of roads and tunnels decked out in Chinese lanterns, handcrafted to look like stars, planets, rocket ships, astronauts, and more! Held at the Nassau County Museum of Art, it's a stunning experience that's out of this world.
  
  
• Bright Lights: Celebrate the Season -  180 Little Neck Rd., Centerport, New York 11721
  Held at the Vanderbilt Museum in Suffolk, Bright Lights is a breathtaking candlelight tour where attendees can explore the beautifully decorated Vanderbilt Mansion. Wreaths, garlands, a larger-than-life tree, and thousands of soft, white lights are the hallmark of this impressive holiday display. You can also stop by the planetarium to see their light show, "Laser Holiday," then finish the evening by stopping by Santa's workshop. It's an experience the whole family will love.
